This Sunday morning, the 1st Andorran Precision Shooting International Open Air 2024 was held at the Andorran Precision Shooting Club. The competition was a first test for what will be the venue for the discipline at the Small States Games in 2025.
Among the 60 participants, the presence of the 2021 European junior champion, Helena Arias, stood out. The Catalan took the victory in the 10-metre air rifle. Arias was very satisfied with the new facilities. “It’s the first time I’ve come here, although I had seen photos in the gallery. The renovation they’ve done is impressive, it’s very nice and on top of that, when it comes to competing, it’s a pleasure, in terms of light and reflections, it’s perfect.”
In pistol, victory for the Spaniard Pedro Gabriel. We highlight the participation of the Cambrils members Jordi Balañà and Joan Pallarés, who achieved third place in their classification. This Sunday, the numerous new features introduced in this shooting range were put to the test, such as digital targets and the new computerised system. A test for the Games of the Small States. This is the first test in which this digitalised system has been launched, which makes the work much easier for the athletes and is also more visual for the public.
Arias herself explained how it was done before. “Traditionally, competitions were on paper, you collected and added up. Now electronic systems are used and you can be more precise. On the screen we see the scores and so we have a tendency to correct. On another screen is the classification, in this way the public can know the results of all the athletes at once, before with paper it was much more complicated.”
The organisation hopes to hold another competition before the Games to be able to test the protocol for the finals.
